i finally updated the site

Finally got my secret little page up for gifts, and guess what. You guys are first!

I started planning this about a week before you guys (Mike and the boys) went on your bachelor party trip. I’m shit at deadlines so I figured that 6 months is a fair enough time to finish a blanket before the wedding. I hope you guys end up liking it, lol.

A little background on this actual blanket and the way it’s made. This isn’t crochet and it isn’t knit - it’s something called Tunisian Crochet which is like a hybrid of both knitting and crochet. Not that you guys care to know the difference, ha, but in case you are curious. Not a lot of people know how to do it - but I’ve been obsessed with it because of the insane amount of variety you can produce texturally and how nice it looks finished. It looks fucking expensive - and I guess to a degree it is.

Anyway - I designed this thing and I’ve been working on it now for about 10 hours now. The blanket is 250 stitches across and it takes about 15 mins to create ea row. I’m at row 24…which if you do the math, theres an excess of 6 hours give or take.

Those 10 hours are constant mistakes :) I really should stop smoking when I make these…I lost count a few times and inverted the colors. The lovely thing about these blankets is that if you make a mistake, you have to rip out all the work you’ve done between the mistake and where you currently are. So I’ve done about ten hours of that.

Even so, its finally progressing and it looks kind of really nice? I get really insecure when I make these so naturally I harass Mike for reassurance every 15 mins as I’m making them. I think he’s numb to my shit at this point and is definitely tired of hearing me talk about these blankets. So here I am, bitching to you instead.

Up close it kind of looks like a lot of nothing but from far it will have a border, and your initials on it. I hope it looks fancy enough for your new place.

The yarn was imported from Denmark, I think and its cotton/acrylic blend which means you can throw it in the washing machine (warm) , dry on delicate (just don’t do a crazy high heat). I promise I wash these things before I gift them to people so they don’t smell like cats and blunts.

I’m waiting on the rest of the yarn to come in because I, again, ordered it high - and grossly underestimated how much yarn I actually needed. Oh and I got hit with tariffs on the second purchase, yay Trump lol.

What else…? For now I’m hoping to get a bunch done this week. If I’m doing the math right, (226 rows left * 15 m p row = 3390 mins / 56.5 hours) I should have about 57 hours left. That means that if I was tattooing, and using my current rate ($300 p/h), this blanket should be worth about $19,950 without any more mistakes. Investment piece, am I right?

I’m sure I will fuck up this blanket some more and add at least another 20 hours to it.

Anyway - here’s where I am at now.

I had to organize my yarn into sandwich bags because it kept getting tangled. Definitely a learning process here.

There are 10 bags but you can only see four in this picture.

And there are my cats. Not on the project but close by, protecting it. Disregard my house mess. I imagine what your crib looks like (I guess I wouldn’t know because we’re never invited over…), and I feel like not one thing is out of place and it’s immaculate - even with a dog. Because Jorge is fancy.

That’s definitely not the case here; there are blankets and kids shit and cats and you already know. But we try and pay someone to come help us and well, it still looks like shit lol. It’s probably me, Mike owns about 3 items here.

And that’s it. I’m tired of typing and pretty much covered all the trials and tribulations from this first section.

I also ordered custom labels so you can have the link to this blog on the actual blanket and can check out the progress.

If you ever read this - I’ll try to keep it funny and interesting and hope that you guys like the gift I’m making you. Although I feel like I don’t really know you, Alyssa, yet, you seem really nice and a good fit for Jorge. And I definitely know Jorge. So I hope you’ve finally found someone to keep you grounded.

See you guys in a few weeks, here, not in real life. Jorge, you never came Monday. It’s been like 4 years at this point.

xoxo
